Why Do You Need A Sitemap
Do We Need A Sitemap?
The simple answer is yes. Google loves a sitemap on a website or blog so that it has a structure that it can
follow, and because it allows those visiting your website to look through the sitemap if needed.
A sitemap is a simple way for the search engines to follow your website and to index it accordingly.
Your sitemap will start at the top of the tree ans spiral down each of the major canal's until it reaches the
end of each canal.
The search engine spider will follow your sitemap from the day it arrives and will in time spider the whole
website.
It is there for very important that your sitemap is structured properly.
Using a sitemap software will help you to do this. A goog software will also allow you to post your new sitemap
to your website, and inform all the major search engines that your new sitemap has been formed.
The major search engines will then note that you have added new content to your website, and will send out its
spiders to see what changes have been made.
XsitePro comes complete with a built in sitemap. This is excellent as it spiders every webpage that you build
using xsitepro.
Unfortunately if you add a blog it will not spider your blog.
You will there for need an external sitemap software to do this.
I use and recommend Sitemap Generation Software called KeyLimeTie.
This is a nifty little sitemap generator tool that I purchased approximately 2 years ago from iArchitect. They
have since sold the software to KeyLimeTie. It costs a mere $49. Most importantly, it comes with FREE
updates FOR LIFE, and has so far gone from level 4.2 up to the latest version level 5.
This software will spider your whole website. It will also spider your blog. You can then take a look at your
pages and change them accordingly so that the spiders will seacrh pages quicker, or slower if required.
Once it has finished it will then send these sitemaps by the click of one button to 5 major search engines.
These incluse Google, Yahoo and Ask.
It also provides the sitemaps for you.
In addition to this it will also provide a RSS page for your disposal, and this is also published alongside your
other sitemaps.
A great piece of software to add to your small list of requirements.
Sitemaps are important. The major search engines would not ask for them if they did not need them. They also
allow the spiders to get round your website better, so a good quality website, that has a good
sitemap is a bonus to a spider.
